3 policemen punished for growing beards without permission:"How does this make sense!"

Three police members in Habiganj district have been given minor punishments for the “offense” of keeping beards without permission. On August 21, an order from the office of the District Superintendent of Police imposed the penalty of “PD” (punishment drill) for two hours a day over two days.

 
The order, signed by District Superintendent of Police A N M Sajedur Rahman, stated that the following police officers from Habiganj district had submitted applications expressing their desire to maintain beards in accordance with Islamic Shariah. In response to their applications, they were scheduled to appear before the Superintendent of Police on August 21.

On the scheduled date, they appeared with beards. Since the constables had kept beards without prior permission from the authorities, each of them was given a minor punishment of “PD” (punishment drill) for two hours a day over two days. A copy of this order imposing punishment for keeping beards without permission went viral on social media. However, on the following day, August 22, through an order signed by the Habiganj District Superintendent of Police, permission to keep beards was granted to the three policemen in response to their applications.
