A journalist dies while reporting live; an Israeli strike on a hospital in Gaza kills 15 people.
The strike on the Nasser Medical Complex near Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Monday, August 25, left a number of civilians hurt. An Anadolu Agency journalist on the site said that Israeli soldiers attacked the hospital's emergency building's upper level.
One of the two airstrikes struck a hospital building's fourth level, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. As rescue crews came to evacuate the injured and recover the deceased, the second strike took place.
One of the fatalities, according to official Palestinian TV, was its cameraman, Hussam al-Masri. Mohammed Salama, Al Jazeera's photojournalist, was also slain, the news outlet revealed.
Photojournalists Mariam Abu Dakka and Moaz Abu Taha were slain, according to Anadolu Agency, which cited a medical source.
It was discovered that Hussam al-Masri, who was killed, had been employed by Reuters. Al-Masri was livestreaming from the hospital when the Israeli strike abruptly stopped the broadcast, according to the news agency. Authorities later confirmed his death.
Gaza health officials said one of the dead was also a rescue worker. Among the victims were Mariam Abu Dakka, Mohammed Salama, and Moaz Abu Taha.
According to the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate, more than 240 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since Israel’s war of genocide began on October 7, 2023.
